That's a great little knife and sheath.

Did you seal the rawhide wrap on the grip with something?

I've wanted to try a center seam sheath but I've been too set in my ways.  You've inspired me to give it a try!

Since you said it was a test knife, did you see any difference in edge performance with this steel compared to others you have made?

John...  yes I did. But I didn't do a cutting test on the little guy.. I just wanted that to skate a file. I did the cutting tests on the big blade.  And it doesn't hold an edge as well as my 1084 and 15n20....simple as that. Which is true of any of the historical steels.  They just wanted their steel to be harder than what they were cutting.  It is also true of the Japanese tamaha-gane steel that is still used to for the very, very high end katanas. Doesn't perform nearly as well modern alloys.  But.. I can't complain... I mean hard chopping on a white oak knot is a pretty dang stringent test for such a thin blade.

Very nice and good WIP.  That would make a great hog knife, now just to find someone to stick it in a pig on the hoof.

Every inch the period kinfe it is supposed to represent and a good heavy duty camp knife to boot.

The sheath is great. Looks like it came right off a vikings belt.
