It's that time of year again (you know, to start a knife for the swap).

For those of you who don't really know who I am, I've organized a knife swap around here for the past 4 years. At it's largest there were over 80 knives swapped between TradGangers! WOW!

It'll be set up the same as in years past. You can enter as many knives as you like in the swap. They can be pretty much anything, as long as you made it (forging, stock reduction, "cheatr" knives, stone knives, etc) - sheath recommended, but not required (leatherworking is a whole 'nother skill to learn). You'll receive as many knives as you enter.

The deadline for this year will be May 31st

After the entry deadline, names will be drawn at random (ok, the computer randomly does it now) and I'll email everyone telling them who to send their swap knives to. It'll be a surprise to the recipients.

Here's the point I need to stress: when you finish your knives, email me with the number of knives you're swapping and your mailing address. Posting "I'm in" on this thread doesn't count  Doing it this way we eliminate many of the problems various swaps have had in the past, such as guys who received, but didn't contribute and waiting for 6 months after the deadline to receive a knife.

You have a about 4 months to complete a knife. It seems like a lot of time, but believe me it's not!  When you've finished your knives, please email me at

[email protected]

So, who's in

28April edit:
If you have a knife finished, please email me - even if you have already done so!

My computer crashed, hard, a few weeks ago and I was forced to wipe it clean and reinstall the OS. Ended up losing all emails and anything that wasn't in a public/shared folder.

Jeremy,

I have a series of knives I am working on completing over the next month.  I will pick one out and put it into the knife swap.  Thanks for putting this together.  I have enjoyed the arrow swap over the last few years this should be pretty cool.

Is there a beginners category?  Don't think it would be fair for an experienced knife maker to make a quality piece and get mine in return.

RM, don't worry about it. make the best blade you can and send it out. I had the same concern last year, still have it a bit this year too, but concensus around here was that people are happy with a blade that has heart and soul in it. If made with the right intensions the good folks around here are very understanding.

So what exactly is a cheater knife? Is it ok to use an old knife to build a new knife? What I mean is, is it ok to cut out the new knife from an old butcher knife? I don't want to say I am in until I am sure I am capable, lol.

John,
The term "CheatR" knife was coined by sticshooter a few years back and refers to just what you're talking about: taking an old knife and cutting it down to make something useful out of it.  The old butcher knives seem to be the most popular to work with   :)  LOL yes I sure did. made whole lot of them there knves  :biglaugh:  .<><

So they can be used for the knife swap or no? I am sure that anything I come up with will not be as purty as any of the ones I have seen on here but I will try my darndest to make it better than nothing, lol. Thanks for putting this together Jeremy and for answering my questions so far,Mike.
