Another one Finshed
« on: February 04, 2011, 10:28:00 PM »
This one is 1084 with wrought Iron finger guard and Osage handle. Lin gave me the wrought iron over a year ago, i etched it for 1 hour, 600 grit finsh

This was going to be a test knife, but i could not bring my self to break it, i did do the brass rob test, every thing went fine.
the picturs are not very good.
hope you like it

Thanks for looking

That sure looks nice!  Looks like a very useful design. How did you finish the osage?   Dan

Very nice Dana!  I love the blade profile, and the look of the wrought.  I etched a guard for 1 hour and came out like yours.  I like the look.

Dana, a question for you, is that a check in the handle of your osage handle?

I found an old live osage tree and some of the lower branches were dead and I sawed several of the dead branches off, they had fairly deep checks.  I'm thinking I may use the branches as knife handles and chasing it down to one growth ring as you would on the back of a selfbow.  Do you think I could saturate the check with super glue and it would hold?  I know there are alot of variables involved!  What do you think Bro!

Steve
that mark one my knife is just a dark line on the wood, it's not cracked or checked, there is another one at the very back of the handle
I think if the wood is not pulpy in any way you should be able to glue it, it's worth a try.
if the tree has rings like that branch does I think I would cut the tree down and make a bow too.
Let me know if it works out
