Two more for the Oregon Knife Show
« on: February 21, 2011, 05:27:00 PM »
Hello from Boise, Up for your review are two more D2 tool steel hunting knives for the April show. Top knife has blade length of 4" with Rockwell 60-C hardness, finished in mirror polish. Handle is bocote with idaho Shiras moose antler overlay. Bottom is another one of my 3 1/4 oz. featherweights with tapered tang, same Rockwell hardness as above. Handle is polished stabilized spalted maple.

Wow, those are nice!  I like the way that moose antler blends into the Bacote.

Those are both very good looking knives, and very functional designs too. They show well and would be great in the field.

Mike,
Awesome!  I got one of these(with out the inlay) last summer at the NALS in Libby Montana. Too bad you didn't have those then. I had the chance to clean and skin two deer with it last fall. It is now my prefered knife. Keep up the good work, Impressive performance.

Hello again, Speaking of "carry knives", I guess some of you folks may be wondering why I don't have metal (brass, nickel silver, etc) guards on my knives. Bowhunting here in the west require us to hike a lot of up-and-down country sometimes at high altitudes all day long, and one thing I came to appreciate is well built light weight hunting equipment. I try to build knives that will get the job done with minimum weight. When you're several miles from camp, and you're going after elk across another ridge at 9,000 ft. elevation, total weight of what you're carrying matters a lot.
