I have been admiring a Daniel Winkler knife for some time now and decided to give one a try today. I forged finished the blade as best I could leaving the spine and the edge bevel to grind. I'm planning to leave the forge scale on most of the blade. I attempted to add some texture to the flats also.
I have a question, after establishing the edge bevel and any other finish work, should I edge quench to harden the blade, or full quench?
And to temper would it be easer or more advantagous to heat treat in the oven or use a torch? If I use a torch will the oxidation travel to the edge to gage the temper, or would the forge scale block or inhibit it?
