Made a knife for a graduation gift
« on: May 26, 2011, 09:34:00 PM »
This knife will be going to a young man who graduates tomorrow. My wife works at the local high school and always seems to find a few kids that have grown up against all odds and although they have had a few bumps along the road, they are trying very hard to put their past behind them and focus on their future. She has become a special mentor to them and has touched their hearts. When she asked if I would make a knife for a graduation gift, I jumped at the chance.
The blade is 3-1/4" long and the OAL is 7-1/4".
The scales are snakewood with ebony bolsters. Home made mosaic pins, brass liners and a little file work. I kept the sheath simple.
 Thanks for looking, Mike

Mike,

"A little file work"? Looks pretty elaborate to me. That is a gorgeous knife. You have done a very nice thing for that young man. I'm sure he will appreciate the gift as being you and your wife giving a part of yourselves to him -- your wife through her teaching, you through building the knife with your own hands, and the both of you for giving him your friendship and guidance. Everything about that knife is good. I love the snakewood and ebony combination. It reminds me of my Blacktail Snakebit bow. The mosaic pins look great, and the file work really dresses up the blade. The shape and size are perfect for just about any field use. That kid is lucky to have you and your wife in his life.

Mike, that's very thoughtful if you and your wife, luck young man, that's a nice knife, pin look good and I really like handle. The file work looks great. You need to take him hunting and let him use his new knife. Keep up the good work
