Collaboration between Sam Lurquin and Lin Rhea
« on: June 24, 2011, 10:20:00 AM »
Back some time ago , I was in touch with a customer of mine in France who knows a knifemaker in Belgium. He introduced us and one thing led to another and here is a collaboration between us. Sam is 33 years old and dont speak much English and I dont speak French, so it's been an adventure, to say the least. He forged the blade and sent it to me, then I heat treated it and hand finished it and got it ready for the guard and handle. I then sent the finished blade back to him and he built the guard and handle. It turned out well I think. This is the one Terry Green made mention of in his earlier thread. The blade is about 9 1/2 inches so you get an idea of what a hand full it is.

Wow! That's just all kinds of special!

When the last elk vanishes from the hills,
When the last buffalo falls on the plains,
I will hunt mice for I am a hunter and I must have my freedom.

Yep....my wallet it jumping again!!!!!

Yep...not much of a 'big knife' fan either....but this one really did get my attention...not only in looks, but in the hand.  Man at the balance.

Thanks.

Dana, the groove is filed in with a round file and blackened. I did not ask Sam, I am assuming that is what he did since that is how I would do it.

Lin, It turned out waaaay more than "well". Beautiful knife! It also feels good to know that you're reaching out to other makers outside of the good ol' USA.  Mike O.
