I'm going to sell my veterinary practice in 2012, so I'll need a job

Therefore I have decided to start selling my knives but first I needed to come up with a reasonable sheath that I did NOT have to stitch. I made up several of my sheaths and gave them to various crafts people. First a shoe repair shop...terrible looking and costly for just stitching. Next pulling names off the bulletin board @ Tandy Leather was a lady who makes purses...nice work but a little too feminine (maybe I'll keep that in mind for my pink handles blades). Finally my wife suggested one of her friends that repairs horse blankets & harness work...match made! I glued up a couple sheaths & send them to her for stitching, coating the edge and hot oil dip for $5 or less if I send multiple sheaths.

These aren't Scott Teascher's beautiful sheaths (of course that is the first option) but the stitching is nice and the sheath is very functional. The best part is I can make the sheath to fit the knife rather than just having a bunch of generic ones.

Next up is a logo stamp for the sheath and contacting Terry & Rob

This is great news, I can finally own a tippit/doc knife. The knife in the picture is my favorite style by you, it has a very surgical look to it.

You have refined your style over the years, but when I see that pattern I know it's a tippit.

I'm not going fancy...that's your job!

The big sheath is a safety factor for my competition chopping knife. It doesn't need to be fancy...just allow me to play with the big boys @ the Great Smokey MT Blade Symposium this spring and not get cut :eek:

If you dont want to stitch sheaths just use rivets, the copper rivets look good and can be textured/colored etc....

Good luck on your venture, like any other business if your going to actually put food on the table as a knife maker its a tough way to go... but doable.

Good luck, but I don't think you it luck! your knifes look great, I really like the style! As for the sheets, they don't need to be fancy but fit the knife perfectly and be some what comfortable on the belt!!

I did the same thing in the sheath department. I was hand stitching until I found a sadle shop in the town that I work in. Awesome work and LOW prices. Very smart move. It saves me time and frustration, not to mention wear and tear on my hands.

Doc, Good for you! Sounds like a new chapter in the adventure! Let's see... bladesmithing/Hammer-ins, flyfishing, hunting and spending quality time with family! Did I leave any thing out? You Sir, are the Man!

BTW I like simple quality sheath construction!

tippit... its easier to keep the "fun" in it when its therapeutic!! Tandy has those copper rivets if you ever want to give them a try, they are fun to tinker with and beat the hell out of stitching for hours!

Me too, just like the one in the picture. I would love to have a arm guard made to hold one of your knives. Can you produce one with convex sharpening?
