Cowboy Bowie (pro photo on pg 3)
« on: March 11, 2012, 08:30:00 PM »
This knife is inspired by the old cowboys that I've seen in the old photographes at times. They sometimes have the straight smallish bowies they carry in the front of their waist. Easy to get to and draw if their rope gets tangled. I love the simplicity.

This is just a blade right now. It's 7 1/2 inches of my damascus. The clip is razor sharp. I'll get it done as time permits.

Terry, is that some of that teenage lingo? Thanks.

Did you see the clown in the pattern? and the bat? and the arrowhead? I think I see Cat in the Hat.

Thank you Ray. I am trying to repay the things I get here on TG. I hope it helps.

Looks great Lin, I do see the clown and the bat!  I really like the flow of that blad profile!  Lin, I can't seem to get the clip on my current project sharp enough.  It's hard to tell in the photo, my clip geomatry looks similar to yours.

Love that Damascus, Lin! Still excited about the much smaller blade you will be making for me.

Looking great Lin. Great profile and beautiful Damascus.
What will the fittings and handle material be?

Thank you gentlemen.
Todd, you probably already know but it is completely heat treated and will be up to use when it gets an owner. I've seen some expensive knives that were users. I get a lot of pleasure from that. Thank you.

Chris, I plan on it having a cross guard, possibly damascus, with ball ends. Also matching ferrule and stag handle. Rather straight forward but that's the way the old cowboy bowies were built. I was thinking the sheath needs to be a little special so I may wait on the photography till that's done. I've been so busy I have not touched it in a couple weeks. But I will. Thanks.
