The "Illi-sota" Brute de Forge
« on: September 30, 2012, 03:17:00 PM »
The result of a move long desired, from Illinois to Minnesota.
This Damascus was made to make the last knife I sold while in Illinois.
It made the trip to my new location in Northern Minnesota.
I wanted my first knife in Minnesota to be a little different.
I "skived" out the steel in the handle where the scales go.
Stabilized curly walnut from northern California.
Bullseye pins to eliminate peening stress on the handle material.
Mirror polished spine.
Hot blued 324 layer 1095 and 15N20.
9 inches overall.

Thanks for letting me share.

When the last deer disappears into the morning mist,
When the last elk vanishes from the hills,
When the last buffalo falls on the plains,
I will hunt mice for I am a hunter and I must have my freedom.

That is a beautiful knife. I really like the "skived" tang / handle.

I like the way you fit the scales. That is a great option for the brute de forge knife. It's really nice. I'm glad you're back in the shop Karl.

Me, too, Lin. I've had so many ideas I want to work on that it's keeping me awake at night.
But with all the down time, I've got customers banging on my "digital door".
Gonna be a long winter and I won't see the sun much.
Thanks, Alan and Charles.

I am one at the digital door, please some time and enjoy the fall and get some hunting in. I can wait there just some things that take precedence in the fall.

Karl that could be a picture of a nice spring day up there. O ya you better get your self 2 snow shovels that way you let one rest while you use the other. You don't want them to tire out before the drive way is done.
