First hidden tang attempt
« on: January 30, 2013, 10:43:00 AM »
A few pics of my first hiden tang attemp. Every knife I try to make, I get a new appreciation for you guys who make the beauties on here.

My pal Dave Ricke coached me through it, helped me when I was stuck ( a lot ,lol). Last years project was donated to St Judes, this might too.

Elk antler from my bud Hornhunter, micarta, nickel silver guard & buttcap.

I would do a few things different next time, Dave told me more contrast in the micarta, but I did not listen, oh well he was right.

I would make the plunge lines straight instead of angled, and the elk antler had a real crook in it, it could have been trimmed out & spacers added.

Thanks for the kind words, working on the sheath & a little more blade sanding. I have to etch my mark somewhere.

To be honest, I feel like Im coming down from a high now that it`s over. Sooner or later I will have to get back to my job...maybe

Good work Brian.  I think the handle turned out nice.  We just have to deal with what "Mother Nature" hands us on those antler handles... and it looks like it turned out fine.  Nice size.
