Rehandled a broken gift knife...
« on: May 18, 2013, 10:06:00 PM »
This started out as a cheap Mountain Quest blade that I could not dull with normal work.  I then turned to abnormal work, when we went camping and my hatchet was missing.  Hatchet has disappeared, I think I know EXACTLY where it is, I'll never see it again.  I used the blade to chop dead wood for our fire, whereupon the extremely poor weld holding the threaded butt connection broke.

The weld breaking was the best thing that ever happened to this knife...

Any crack you see is fully stabilized.  Amber is an unforgiving surface to work.  Sometimes I let the natural fractures be, because I thought they looked better than my polishing.

This will have a home on the side of my new quiver, when I finish it.  I think it'll be much better than that glued-on rubber junk it came with.
