Dance of the Silver Sasquatch
« on: November 25, 2013, 11:37:00 PM »
Here's a bowie blade I am working on......one of the first 3 pattern welded blades I made. low layer count. This is 7 layers 1084 and 15n20, twisted......looks like a whole tribe of bigfeet dancing down the blade(at least if you are insane like me it looks like that)thus the name. Length is just over 9 inches from tip to where the guard will be.
Also in the pic is the handle block that it will wear. Birch burl that I harvested and had professionally stabilized. It is some very pretty stuff. The tree the burl was on had been cut down and left during the logging, so I rescued it from rotting away on the ground.  :readit:   Here's a pic.

Hope to have this one done in the next week or so.

That looks great, Darcy. The wood for your handle looks really nice. I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product. Thanks for sharing.

How could dancin silver sasquatches possibly be considered not nice.  That'd be a great album name for a country western band by the way.  Looks great.  I actually like lower layer count twisted Damascus patterns.  I would tell you to hurry up and get it finished but I've got pics up of an unfinished bowie right now that have been up a couple of weeks.   :D

Yeti's doing a fire dance, nice!!
I don't think I have seen such a low layer twist, it looks very cool. Can't wait to see it finished out.

very nice - I really like the low count Damascus - especially in a twist pattern.  Very well done.

I hammered out three new similar billets this weekend.  Felt good to be back in the shop.

Darcy, I agree with the consensus concerning the low count Damascus!  I like it!

Great looking Burl too!

Finally got this one pretty much done. Not sharpened yet, and still have to build the sheath.
