Question About Schrade Knives New Old Stock
« on: December 27, 2013, 12:18:00 AM »
There seem to be lots of Schrade knives on the big auction site, made in USA, but listed as "old stock new".

I know that Schrade knives are made in China these days.  What is the story behind so many knives listed as 'new' but still made in the USA?

Could these be old stock that was purchased before Schrade USA closed?, or genuine made in USA blanks that were finished by another buyer?

I'm particularly interested in their Professional Hunter (PH2) model.

Thanks.

I have several I bought when Schrade was shutting down. They came with certificates that they were from the final production run. I thought they would appreciate in value since there would be no more Schrades. Knives were back on the market with hardly a hiccup and I just put mine away in a drawer and haven't looked at them since.  Seems people don't care too much where it's made - they just look at the name.

new old stock means just that,  new uncirculated items that have been in storage or not previously sold.

Im guessing these were found in storage somewhere.

Somebody did the same thing I did, but instead of buying 1/2 dozen, they bought 100?

I ended up with some of Schrade's left over blade steel. I think it is 1084. That's what I bought it for and it works well.

Here's what I found about one of the "new old stock" Schrades listed.

"New old stock.

The blade and sheath were made in the Ellenville, New York USA Schrade factory prior to their bankruptcy in 2004. The handles were attached at a later date. Tang is stamped; Schrade+, U.S.A. LTD."
