Sick of Desert Ironwood yet?
« on: July 31, 2014, 07:59:00 PM »
Not me!
I just finished up one of my Scout Hunters. I made this one from CPM-154 and some fantastic Desert Ironwood.
It has a nice distal taper and is flat ground to a fine edge. The tang is tapered for very nice balance.
It has a dark acid washed finish and a polished spine for a nice contrast.
The Ironwood has that great chatoyance and flash that only Ironwood has.

The sheath is a hand stitched and heavy duty.

Not Likely!
Man, that's beautiful. I have that model marked down as a possible future knife. That a 5" blade?

Could never get tired of ironwood, my favorite. But it sure does stink when grinding.

I really like the scales. It's been fun to watch your knives over the last few years. I believe it's the small things that make good knives great. And yours have turned into that; the very nicely tapered tang, VERY attractive sculpting of the scales, a very well executed sheath to go with it, etc. Thanks for sharing your knives.

Love the ironwood. I bought a stick of it about 18" long and 2" diameter in Agua Prieta, Mexico years ago. I think I gave the guy $2 for it. I made all kinds of jewelry and doodads out of it. Still have two pieces cut for knife scales when I get around to it. You're right, it smells terrible when it gets hot and I'm betting the dust would be bad for a body to breathe.

Never, never get sick of Desert Ironwood!!! And now that I've found I have issues with working with Cocobolo I'll be using it even more. Just bought 12 pounds of it in 4 blocks. Now to find how I want to slab it up for scales. Ever buy it in larger blocks.......like 4.0x4.0x10.0?
