Put My first together
« on: February 24, 2015, 06:31:00 PM »
Well I assembled my first knife today. It's a Helle blade I've had for awhile. I used some Deer antler that was donated by a road struck Whitetail. Not sure if he was Road Kill cause we only found a piece of antler. LOL

Brass finger guard and pommel came from a piece of brass pipe re-claimed from a 80 yr. old bridge I worked on. I bought some pommel nuts when I purchased the blade but couldn't find them. So I threaded the tang and tapped out a 100 gr. brass insert and used it to secure things.

I learned a lot today. I need better eyes, tools, and patients. I have another blade I plan on doing this week. This stuff is addicting!!!

Thanks Guys. It was fun and educating.

I spent a lot of time getting the tang to fit the piece of antler. Then making sure everything lined up when assembled.

I used JB weld to fill the void I made drilling the antler. It turned out solid as a rock. I think it will last for years to come.

On the next one I'll try and pay more attention to the cosmetics. I was very happy with the end result for my first try.

Now I'm trying to build a sheath to carry it. I need to get some different leather what I have on hand is a little heavy for what I have in mind.
