Finally one for me!
« on: February 27, 2015, 11:45:00 PM »
As I have stated here before, I am one of those goof balls who prefers a large blade for general backwoods duty. I have been without a blade of my own for a while, and finally managed to finish this one up.......now I just need to hang onto it!

Here are the specs.
-112 layers of Aldo's 1084 and 15n20.....ladder pattern. Forged the hard way as always.
- Blade length is just a hair under 8 3/4"
-Handle is amber dyed elk.
-Guard and butt cap are antique textured and engraved/carved mild steel.
-Spacer is engraved and antiqued 416 stainless(not fun to engrave!)
All engraving done with hammer and chisel.

Here are some pics......all comments and critique are welcome.

You're gonna have to fight to keep that beauty! I love it.

I sometimes see a knife that makes me really want it. This is one knife I'd love to have in my collection. I call first dibs if you ever decide to part with it.

Wow.  The blood brother turned out awesome.  I can't find anything I don't like on that one.  Except maybe the location.  The sad thing is, I haven't touched mine since you posted the first pictures of yours a while back.  I've been busy building a go kart the last few weeks.  But it's almost street ready so hopefully I'll be able to start back soon.

I can't think of any higher praise than Lin's requesting to buy it, but that is indeed beautiful. Everything just fits together so perfectly - all in character (including the sheath) and what a character; antiquing, engraving, colors - WOW!

Thanks so much guys.....it means a lot.

Lin, that's probably the highest compliment I have ever received on a knife.   :notworthy:

Matt, I am looking forward to seeing your blade come to life......I still have some handle material for you if you need some.....just send me a PM.   :campfire:

Thanks for the offer Darcy, but I've got my mind set on a frame handle for now.  I just need to get it HTed and finish sanding the blade, fit a guard and spacer, and then get the frame fit.  After that I'll have to see if I have a piece of cow bone big enough, which is what I want to use, or if I'll have to use wood.  I could also go with a wood/bone combo handle, but Ill have to get the handle shape established with the frame and then do some sketching to see if I come up with a combination/design I like.

Superb! I dont blame you for falling in love with it. Reminds me of a knife from the custom shops of old Europe.

That's pretty sweet.
When the last deer disappears into the morning mist,
When the last elk vanishes from the hills,
When the last buffalo falls on the plains,
I will hunt mice for I am a hunter and I must have my freedom.
