Blade Name Help? Got it. Thanks. Finished photo pg 2
« on: June 21, 2015, 09:30:00 AM »
I need help naming a blade. I have made this particular shape blade a while back for my son. I have played around with the shape but keep being drawn back to the original profile. I just think it is pleasing and functional. As they say, "form follows function".

I intend to make this blade in any number of sizes but this one is 10 inches and about .300 thick at the ricasso. My son's is scaled down to 9-1/4 and he loves it.

I would like to have a one word name that is not already taken. Something in nature would be ideal. Thanks for your help in advance.

I think untamed or wild when I see this. Sauvage= untamed or wild in French.

Happy Father's Day.

Maybe narwhal.

Or cornice, as in a snow cornice.

"Denali" as in the mountain, which means " the high one".

That profile is my personal favorite. In a very small size it is the best I've found to peel furbears. Can't help much on a name, nothing comes to mind that quite matches the just right profile and handy properties of that blade.
Handy sure describes it but just isn't enough.

Since I'm from Michigan (and like the home team from Ann Arbor) I'd have to say the Wolverine.

"Tahoe" meaning "Big Waters". To me like the drawing out and flow of the steel   :goldtooth:

I was trying to come up with a water related name as well due to the flow. A real aggressive name would not suit it(in my opinion) since it is not an aggressive looking blade.
What about "fjord" or if you wanted to go with 2 words, "South Fork"??

The first picture reminds me of elk antler tips "Ivory" or "White Elk".

Does have a shark profile. Since it is hand forged, how about hammerhead?
