I have been hunting IL pretty hard while on vacation this week. I decided to get a little extra sleep this morning and just hunt around home. It started out with misting rain and a late start to the woods. The rain stopped and sun was rising by the time I got set up. I had barely nocked an arrow when the first buck showed up,the first of fve that I would see before 9:30am. It would be 1 1/2 hrs. before this buck came in at 11:00am. I had rattled a good 20min. earlier but I don't know if he came to that or was just crusing for does. His travel path brought him to less than 10yds from the tree I was in. As he turned broad side to pass a small tree, I quickly came to full draw and released. My cane arrow buried to the selfnock tight behind his shoulder! He barely made it 70yds before toppling over leaving a red carpet behind him that a blind man could follow. I was shooting one of my 58" osage selfbows and tonkin cane arrows with trade points.
