ks -- I have not hunted these units. However, I can say that the West Slope this year is enjoying/suffering a record-breaking massive snow season. Winterkill will be massive, and hunt predictably will suffer. While I generally advise real hunters (that is, those who walk rather than press their thumbs on a throttle) to hunt the West Slope, since we have better elk pops and fewer hunters (farther from Denver, etc.). This year will be different, as the west is getting hammered and the Front Range is mellow. However and even so, if you have roads and ATVs, you'll not have a memorable hunt. Get away from roads and motors is the first rule of elk hunting. Second rule is "hunt uphill so you can pack the meat downhill." If my predictions about a bill winterkill prove wrong, come on over to the west side, and avoid GMUG which is massively poisoned by roads, gas wells and pretend hunters on wheels.
