long arrows
« on: August 17, 2008, 07:43:00 PM »
just bought a osage bow from Owl bows. 50 lbs @ 25 inch and I have some 50-55 laminated birch shafts. Ed said I should try building them long 29 to 30 inches bop, thought they would fly great. Any ideas

I draw 26" and cut all my arrows to 29"bop. I like the extra weight and the extra length makes the arrow more flexible so its easier for it to get around the bow. These days I shoot mostly hardwood shoot arrows or cane arrows but even with cedars I cut them long.     Pat

thanks. I am doing it. 29" bop and the bow is cut just a hair off center so it should be pretty forgiving. Just wanted a little feed back on the new site .

Just be sure to not draw beyond 26" It would be very easy to do with longer arrows.

Jim, I have a hard enough time getting to 26".  No threat of over drawing for me!!!     Pat

I have a very short draw and was really more concerned about how this would effect the spine and also the flight of the arrow. If anything I have more problems making sure I come to full draw as to over drawing a bow. New bow should be here this week. Can't wait.
