Non Glare?
« on: August 18, 2008, 04:16:00 AM »
I finish my bows with a clear top coat that comes in a spray can and is ment for cars so is very glossy.Does anyone know of something I could sprinkle on the clear coat when wet to make it non-glare.

after drying rub it with 000 steel wool, That will take out the shine and make it dull.

A quick spray with satin poly(if it is compatible with your finish)works well for me with a Tru-Oil finish.     Pat

Like Pat and mystic I Rub the Tru Oil (or other finish) with very fine steel wool and then do a very light overspray holding the spray head 2-3 feet away from the back of the bow.
Auz, that should work for you too-just 'mist' the same spray you are using from a distance and let it dry to produce a stippled effect.

Thanks guys for the ideas I did try the dry mist thing but found it was not as tough as the original finish and came off if scratched but mabey it was a bit too dry I will work at that a bit more. Thanks again.

I use pumice powder and some veg oil. Dip a rag in the veg oil then the pumice powder rub on the bow. Removes the shine leaves the finish.
