Ray, that is a beautiful bow. I know everyone would love to hear/see some stats on it (weight, length, etc.) - and materials info (Like is that snakeskin, beavertail, fishskin, or what? What is the fur? What is that beautiful wood, or is it the finish that makes it have that "antique-y" wood look?, etc) It is a beauty, and I am proud to have it displayed in my thread. Thanks for posting it.

(Oh, one thing, Ray, could you please move that one picture below the other one, rather than side by side, so that my thread won't be wider than the allowable width (600), or the moderators will eventually have to take it out/off. Thanks.)

Also, That full Draw pic will appear on my Traditional Bows Drawn pages of my web site, the next time I post pics to them. Thanks for that also.

Thanks Bernie!

I fixed the pic.

I'm glad you don't feel like I'm trying to draw any attention away from what you're creating, because that is far from what I'm trying to do. If anything...I just want to see it inspire others.

The bow is made out of osage. It draws 50lbs. at 28". It's 64" long and I decorated it with Diamond Back Rattlesnake skin, coyote fur and black and white acrylic paint.

The finish on it is Tru Oil.

Not a bit of it, Ray. My real pleasure to see it (and thanks for fixing the pic) and the description is great. I just knew it was Osage and I really like Tru-oil. Thanks again and i am sure it will inspire. I'll post it on my pages very soon - perhaps today.

Worked a little more (a lot of time, a small progression of scraping) and the right limb is now bending more like the left, however it is still behind it's mate a little. Will continue to even them up (hopefully) and get another picture up soon. Getting close to regular string now, I think. Reading is now at 40# @ 15" (still a strong bow, for me - LOL)

Your welcome, a good addition. Yep, there is something abnout it - as mesmerizing as watching the arch of the arrow, in my book.
......................................

Got on the scraper a little more this afternoon and the right limb is looking more in tune with the left, but still a little behind, I'd say. I'm liking the way the bow is responding to both the scraping and the exercising - so far, so good - ;^). Scale indicates 38 1/2# @ 15" in this picture. Still a lot to go to get to 40-45# @ 25" but things can change fast, and miscues can be costly, at this stage, I would think.

Ray, do you have a side full draw pic? I am wondering about the bend or lack of bend in the narrow tips. Thanks, Shaun

Bernie, looking good. I have been enjoying this thread and dreaming of trying one after deer chasing time.

Thanks, Dano and Shaun. Yep, our deer season opens the 13th of Sept. and I know I won't be finished with mine - that's worrisome. I have a sneaky suspicion I'm not going to be able to hunt quite as often this year anyway though. At least I'll have this bow and my BBI glue-up to keep me busy and happy, when/if I can't hunt.

Bernie - Lookin' great!

Shaun - Here's the only side profile pic I have of the bow being drawn. I would take some better pics but I sold it.

Dano,

Good observation. You should have seen it before I trimmed it. It's definitely more tolerable now...at least for me and the guy I built it for...but I'm sure some people would have needed to trim it even more  ;)

LOL - you mean when they say, "Focus," and/or, "Pick a spot," they aren't talking about in the close-up fur patch, huh?   :D

Tips look pretty much non-bending to me (as the non-modified Holmis are supposed to be), though there might be a tad of bend to be found there, if one looked hard enough. Looks great anyway.

I appreciate that, Guido.

BTW, Ray, I added that side shot FD to my pages also (beside the other) and corrected that Typo (or brain-burp) on your state, that I noticed. Duh!  ;)

I decided it was time to get (a temporary fix) a pair of Foam Core Boards up behind my tillering tree (for better pic background and easier eyeballing of the bows, I hope). They are mounted with velcro. Those 2x2 uprights are not even so it is hard to mount them well, and exactly where I need them but they'll help some for now. Soon I will be replacing the 2x2s (and the tarp behind them) with outdoor siding board, and will be able to mount the FC boards better. I think then I will use four FC boards and turn them the other way for better coverage of the background. In this first pic you can see I tried to make the right limb catch up with the left one, and overshot the landing a bit. That's OK though, as they need more thickness reduction still anyway - but I'd rather keep them even. It did serve to remind not to do too much at a time now before checking.

I took the bow back in and took after the left limb to bring it up with the right one - think I did a little better judgement this time. My wife wasn't available to take the pic on this one so I set up a tripod and used the timer while I pulled the rope. That is why the angle is a little different and the bow appears a little above the foam core boards. I'll get it all where I want it eventually, with all the times I'll put it on the tillering tree - LOL.

I know that these readings on the bow scale haven't carried too much meaning since I am still on the long string but in this pic it was 40# @ 16". You can see that I should be able to put it on the short (regular) string soon, probably for next pics.
