Look what I found (pics)
« on: February 04, 2008, 07:13:00 PM »
I've being looking for a good ambushable wallow for years, but they are hard to find, most of them are in thick unaprochable areas,...than the other day while hunting, I looked over this ridge, and there it was, a dream set up, a well used trail and a well beat up wallow, in the open ( I can even hunt this spot at full moon   :bigsmyl:  ) prevailing tradesblow fromthe rigth of the wallow to where I was taking the pictures, you can see the trail exiting the ironwood forest into the wallow, and than continuing down what becomes a really steep mountainside.

I'll be there wednesday and thursday (new moon   :bigsmyl:  )

Uh ... how do you manage to get eatable meat from an animal in a mess like that? Wallows are great for elk in rut as well, but you gotta get 'em coming in, before they start pissing and rolling, or you have a black stinking inedible hunk o' dead meat. Unless, of course, there's a firehose handy! Man, we have 5' of snow here. I am jealous (I think).

That's right pops, my hart skipped a beat when I looked over the lip, i was more stoked than if I had killed a pig.

steadman, hopefully I'll connect.

In the mean time a friend of mine and I whent hunting a new spot today, this was a river bottom
we run into pigs as soon as we dropped in, but got them spooked, we hunted up the valley finding great signs everywere, at one point we sat a bit in ambush, I had a medium sized hogappering out of the bank without a sign, it was 3 yards from me, but since my friend hasen't yet killed his first I didn't shoot, unfortunately the pig whent in the opposite direction from where my friend was sitting in ambush,..he never even saw it.

on the way back I let him go way in front to see if he could get something, he told me later that he stumbled on 3 hogs that busted him, took a shot but missed,...next time   :bigsmyl:

here's some pictures from the day

You southern boys have all the fun. I sure wish we had piggies to hunt up here.
