I was wondering if anyone could tell me if I sculpte the riser for the bow I am planning,ie.. sculpte the riser into the form of a dragon or cougar or something like that and then incorporate the arrow shelf and such into the sculpting at the same time, would it weaken the riser?

As long as you stay within 3/4" you should be fine.
