Electronic Moisture meter feedback

I was thinking about the meter from three rivers,for checking moisture in wood staves.welcome all feedback,also better choice or options etc.Thanks.

I bought a moisture meter many years ago and rarely used it when making self and all wood backed bows. I just sent it to a friend in Utah where "too dry" is a problem. As far as I am concerned the $100 it costs can be better used on other quality tools or wood. Take the money and build a hot box.  For me, that was money well spent.       Pat

I have the Mini Ligno and use it all the time. I've had staves for 3 years that were stored inside that needed additional time on my handy, dandy NH heater. I keep checking right through until about 18 inches of draw. That way you get readings on the inner wood. Jawge

I primarily build bamboo backed osage bows and the moisyure meter has been critical to producing faster, low set bows.  Without it I'm just guessing, but with it I can be sure of my moisture.  I use it in conjunction with a drying box to dial in the moisture to my needs(9-10%).  Great tool!  Take a look at your local woodworking stores and get some advice from the experts before you buy one to make sure you get the right one for your needs.  Happy bowbuilding!

I'm with George on this one. I had some wet dogs before I got the mini-ligno from 3 rivers.  No more wet noodle bows after that. Well worth the cost at
$125.
