are horn bows allowed to be discussed on here
« on: December 18, 2008, 04:59:00 AM »
Hi everyone,

I am quite new to making bows and am a member of another forum. When somone brings up the subject of horn bows the post usually gets slammed as its not a primitive bow.

I am looking to make my first horn bow in the next few months if my pending newborn baby will allow some time to build.

Would I be welcome to post my horn bow making escapades in here and ask for advice in here for it too or should i be in another section.

Kind Regards All
David

Hi David,

I think it is safe to say you found the right section to post.  I dont think you will get slammed on this site...unless you start putting compound bow cams on the ends!

I cannot offer too much advice on a horn bow but I would like to see one built...that would be great. Best of luck

I like seeing any kind of bow build-along that doesn't have wheels.  Don't worry, you'll get some time off from the newborn.....in about twenty years.  I sneak down into the basement once in a while for some get-away time.

Congrats to you and yours on the upcoming event!

I would welcome a horn bow build along here. Horn bows are very ancient and I would consider some of them to be primitive. Most of the ancient ones were made with primitive technology.     Pat

Thanks guys,

I will put my buildalong here while I build it then transfer a copy across to my site when its complete.

Needless to say im not going to go all primitive on my first try  :)  but it should be a wonderful challenge. Dont worry guys I wont be adding wheels to my horn bow i care to much about trying to get a historic style to do that  :)

I am sure I saw a few horse bows on this site many months ago when i was getting into making bows so i a going to see if I can dig them out for information.

Kind Regards
David

A horn bow buildalong would be great!  And you would be hard pressed to get slammed here, that is why I hang out here-it is a great forum.  Even if someone disagreed, you would be more likely to get a PM instead of getting jumped on in cyberspace.
