Bow building at the Tenn Classic
« on: February 24, 2009, 10:12:00 AM »
For anyone that enjoys building wood bows or wants to learn to build a wood bow, please check out the 12th Annual Tenn Classic info in the "Trad Events" section of TradGang.
The Classic's main objective, besides having fun, is the self bow challenge where you purchase a stave from the club(very reasonable) and you build a bow that you will compete with on Sunday on the 3D course with other challenge participants. I have been to the last 2 and was amazed at not only the bows that were made for the challenge or the age difference in the builders but the fact that some of the best wood bowyers around come to the classic and are on hand and very willing to assist you through the entire process. I have never been to MoJam but I can imagine this a more Eastern version of that bow building mecca.
If you are within a few hours of Nashville Tenn you won't regret coming to the Classic. The event is actually near Chapmansboro, Tenn about 30 miles north of Nashville and the dates are May 2,3,4, 2009.

I just sent Mark 2 dozen tillering gizmos for the guys making bows to play with.

I will look you up when I get there Pat. I missed the last two because of minor things like montezuma's revenge acquired at the wrong time and having an ingrown toenail operated on.

Looking forward to it too Eric. I met Mimms 2 years ago there and was hoping to meet Mickey but the weather both years prevented him from riding his bike there. Hopefully he'll make it this year.
That's a nice gesture from you. I'm sure the gizmos will come in handy. I have donated a bow to be raffled off each year and am working on one for this coming year.

My wife and I have been to the last five Tennessee Classics. We look forward to it all year. Pappy and all the Twin Oak gang bend over backwards to make this shoot enjoyable for everyone. If you only go to one shoot this year, the Tennessee Classic is the one to go to.
The Tennessee Traditional Archery Society is having their banquet at Twin Oaks this weekend. There will be some bow building demos going on also. For more info check out the Tennessee state forum.

The classic is just south of Clarksville Tn. I can't believe no one mentioned the wild game feed Sat. nite. The best variety fo food you could ever want! The 3-D coarse is great. Biff

Oh yea, don't forget the food. When you leave the Classic on Sunday you will be heavier and happier than you were on Friday.
...and like CheapShot said...if you only go to one archery event this year the Classic should be it.
I promise you won't regret it!

Welcome Pappy. I thought I'd put a bug in these guys ears to see if we couldn't get a few more folks to show up at the Classic and enter the selfbow challenge.

I hope to be down PAPPY, I feel the need to test Mr. Davis's skills out in the challange. He is always good for a fun time with maybe a lost arrow or two. He is the one that got me started in this game many moons ago. I think that was a good thing(?). If you talk to him ask him about a charlie maple challenge. That is a fun time that we have a shoot or two up here.

Mike I just love the numbers, you are going to bring 300 staves?! In the whole of SA I doubt there are 300 trad archers, ok maybe there are a few more but this is to ONE event? Brilliant! Have fun, you guys don't know how lucky you are.
