At a 28" draw length, you'd get better shooting stability with a bow longer than 60".  I'd opt for a 66" length if yer not gonna hunt with it.

Ho ok, I know Rob, I shoot a lot in Field with Barebows ( Hoyt modified )I have a lot of bows, long, short( Browning Nomad Stalker 52") I use it like horsebow, the longuest is my Hoyt Avalon for Barebow, it's a "68 .
I done bows myself for ten years, but had to stop because, I got big problems working on exotic woods like Pao Ferro, so now, I have to buy bows, like everybody, and so sorry about

In this new millennium, there are SO many superb trad bowyers and bows to choose.  

IMO, there is no "best" trad bow, there is only the bow that's in yer hand that works "best" for you.  To me, trad bows are both weapons and art, and I've gotta have more than one.   :D    

You'll NEVER EVER know how a bow will work for you unless you shoot it.  Sometimes you'll know right away if it's a keeper or not - sometimes it takes weeks or longer.  And in that light, the opinions of others are just that, and have little or nothing to do with you and the bow(s) yer interested in buying.  That goes for ALL bows - box stock or super custom.  You gotta shoot 'em!  

Going with a custom trad bow can mean months or years of wait, and that's another consideration.

I've got two bows coming - one used and one brandy new - both might end up on the Classifieds chopping block, or ... hey, it's all a crap shoot of sorts.

A new bow is always dificult choice ....
But time we spend choosing it it's big pleasure too .The most dificult is waiting for the new bow after ...

I agree with robtatoo... I you are looking for great performance, go with a Border Black Douglas Ultra with the HEX IV limbs. They smoke an arrow and are gorgeous too. I have a 50#@28 Border with the XP30 limbs (get the HEX IV's) and I can smoke an arrow at 209 FPS (the HEX IV's are faster). Try and find any Widow that will do that. That, and they are a lot closer to you (Scotland).

Don't get me wrong, widows are good bows but some people just don't like/adapt well to the rear mounted limbs and the bulky riser (IMO). Personally, I can't stand it. I own a Zipper TD (Great bow), a Border Black Douglas TD (super fast great bow), and a Hybrid TD Southern Draw Longbow (super fast for only 43#). I'm ordering a Blacktail Snackbit sometime this month but because of Norm's wait time, I probably won't see it for two years. I have a weakness for really high-end performers.

I really don't like Border ( new models)
I shoot Border for long time, Longbow and recurve td, but there is a lot of problems of delamination , on the news Border, on Fita limbs, and Hunting bows too . Probs looks comming from carbon . Now I've a longbow Border Hawk, 62" 55#@28", yew and carbon limbs, with clear fiber, and Tulipwood riser reinforced.
But, I try to sold it , to buy a Grand Gallois wakatanka,(the best longbow I never try )

I would look at a Zipper or a Fox High Sierra. Both great bows and super bows to shoot.

I currently have two Blacktails and one Morrison. I have also had a Black Widow. My personal opinion is I would rank the Blacktail first, Morrison 2nd and Widow 3rd. They all performed exceptionaly well as far as speed, really couldn't tell a difference. Those Blacktails are so nice to look at and if you ever decide to sell one they go fast.

Well philip, my 46# widow shoots an arrow 450grns through the crono at around 190-192fps.

I ask for the speed, because in France to in Hunting category, we have to shoot 30 grammes arrows, I don't know in gr, but it's heavy for somebody who's shooting between 40 and 50# don't you think .
Before, in Barebow, I never had this prob, because arrows weight is free
And in Longbow, the only thing is : wooden arrows ( no special wheight)

You did not list it, but you might consider a Wes Wallace.  Very similar design to the Blacktail, top notch workmanship, and no better bowyer to deal with, IMHO.  Wait is about 7 months on a new one.  I have literally shot or owned every high dollar bow out there, and this is the best shooting, easiest to tune and select a proper arrow for bow I've ever messed with.  It is not known for speed, but seems to be as fast as any other I've had.  I have owned both Morrison and Black Widow; while they are first rate bows, I found both a bit touchy about arrow selection and tuning, and they just weren't right for me, but many, many people love them.  Good luck, Paul.
