i have a hickory self bow 45# @ 28" i was examining my bow the other day and noticed a linear crack right near the rawhide backing. about an inch long, felt the splinter with my finger. can i shoot some super glue under this crack and still keed shooting this bow or can i expect a slow demise of it and just look foward to another bow. this bow is also 13 yrs old .it is also my first trad bow. i also dont want to part with it so fire wood is not an option

I do a wrap with sinew or serving thread soaked in epoxy or superglue.

I understand the serving thread soaked in epoxy or superglue but what about the sinew?  I would expect that to be coated with hideglue or Titebone.

I have done a bunch of wraps with sinew and Tite Bond, dried fast and was super strong.

Here is and extreme example. This bow was broken in two except for the bamboo. Urac in the crack and tite bond soaked sinew and it is still shooting.

thank you all, your knowledge and expertice amazes me. i will try these avenues of aproach and see what happens. the other thing ive been deliberating on is to try self bows again. ive been reading all the build-a-longs... im ready to plunge in and give it a good colledge try. with more patience i might add.i have some items for trade that i will be posting today i would like a good peice of osage with little or no knots or pins. i already have a scraper set and a drawknife. just need the wood. ive always wanted a 2 peice takedown self bow and i think i can do iti will keep everyone posted on what happens next thank you so much for helping in my decisions ,regards ruddy

how long did it take for the locktite to dry john

I used Loctite just to glue the splinter down.  It dries almost immediately since it is more of a chemical reaction bond.  I used hide glue for the sinew.  It takes a day or two to dry in this application.

I have a suggestion. Broketooth, after you the sinew wrap, you can glue on a fur strip for decoration. Glue on another strip in the corresponding part  of the other limb. If you are using artificial sinew or some such you can wrap with a decorative thread as a finish. Jawge

george, i had thought of that, pretty much would have to , to make it look symmetrical and like it was done on purpose.lol after 13 yrs as a workin mans bow its finally gonna get dressed up
