i shoot one but i didn't make it . mine is one peice hickory with rawhide backing. it is 66" long, pulls 45#@28" draw. i shoot cedar arrows from it that are in the 45-50#spine group its a great shootin bow and ive had it for a long time. it does not have the performance of the glass backed bows ,but its really quiet. its also very forgiving if you dont do everything just right. this was also my first trad bow. check out som of the other self bows made here on the site. mr patb makes some fine lookin bows , ive seen pics . everyone who shoots a self bow can attest that they are not carbon copy bows. each one is very unique in its own way. every selfbow also has its unique beauty.also every selfbow out there is extremely quiet. 10,000 yr old technology still goin strong

Me to I've been building and shooting selfbows for 18 years.33 bucks 7 gobblers unknown number of ground hogs squrrils and rabbits. There just as deadly as any other bow.Maybe not as fast but you will get far more enjoyment than buying a new bow each year to stay in the 300 feet a second click.

DEAD is DEAD no matter how fast your arrow gets there.

I shoot the latest one I made... usually osage @62-64" NTN and maybe 55# at 29".

I would claim I am some kind of purist BUT the truth is:

1.  I am not handy at detailed precise work, and
2.  I am cheap.

Self-bows are the BEST fun for the money.  Th people I meet thru self-bows are even BETTER.

They're all I hunt with.

They're all I ever shoot, too, unless I'm shooting FITA, then I shoot one of those tricked out, fancy, metal handled, Olympic recurves.

90M is heck on arrows when you're shooting a selfbow.  I do shoot my selfbows for field archery, but the max distance there is only 80 yds.   ;)

I build and shoot self-bows, have for 10yrs or so now. I just fininshed three more this winter. Tried my hand at shorter flat bows so I could shoot one easly out of blind. My normal bow is 66 to 68 inch bend right to the handle longbow. The last two have been 62 inch bind to the handle wide flat bows (Torges style).

I love my "starvation sticks".

Now if I could only choose one to stick with and shoot. So many bows so few hunting seasons.

I just shot a 3D course on Saturday morning with my newly finshed Hickory static recurve.  It is backed with sinew, though.  I was tempted to take the working handle osage selfbow I'm putting the final details on but the recurve won out.
