3 pc t/d recurve build and pics
« on: April 23, 2009, 10:40:00 PM »
Here are some pics of the recurve I am building for my buddy Mark. The limbs are zebrawood, the riser is bocote, both from KennyM. It is the standard 58" Bingham takedown build. We are shooting for 55 @ 28".
  The riser parts.

  Cooked riser.. MMMM good.
My riser jig for cutting the limb pad angles all made from scrap.

Pads cut and now on to the riser bolt hole. This is another jig I built for this purpose also from scrap. I cut the angle on the miter saw then glued and screwed it all together after confirming square with a square.

  Moment of truth.

  Tap tap taparoo....

  inserts inserted and epoxied.

The limbs. What a beautiful pair huh? Shame to have to tape them back up.

Didn't get a pic of the bolt hole process but it is much the same as the index pin hole. This is a trick I learned from another post about 3 pctake downs and limb alignment. Bolt the limbs to the riser before drilling the index pin. Lay the whole thing flat on the table and snug the limb bolts up and then determine the spot to drill the index pin hole through the limb and into the riser at the same time. Fool proof way to make sure everything lines upgood and purdy.

    Almost a bow!

Those riser wood combos are nice- they will go well with the limbs. Nice ideas on the jigs. Looking forward to seeing more keep up the good work.

Ok, a little progress.

Cocobolo for the limb butt over lays. NOTE: Don't let the smoothon get into the the holes for the limb hardware!!! Results in having to re-drill the holes.

Riser is 19". We left the limbs a bit long to lower the weight to 45lbs.

Your joking about the shop right DCM? We could get anymore clutter in there! LOL!

Kenny, we have to do a lot more work on the riser and get the limbs pulling straight.

We got the riser roughed out a little more last night. Still have a lot of fat to trim on each end but she's coming along.
