biulding my first bow
« on: April 29, 2009, 07:18:00 PM »
I am getting ready to bite the arrowhead and start my first bow building project.Leaning towards a strait longbow.Would it be smart to begin with a kit or jump it to it with both feet? the hot box was built last weekend and I am ready to move to the next step.  Any help is welcomed

read lots of buildalongs.  this site has quite a few good ones.  gather a list of materials and lam thickness needed for draw weight you want.  don't expect the first one to be right on or even close.  in fact i would order two sets of fiberglass lams, after the first one i bet you'll want another.

Hi James,
Here is a bit on form building...
 http://www.kennyscustomarchery.com/Bow_forms.html

If you can get a plan with known thicknesses,it will save some time and $ getting the weight you want.

Good luck!!
Stay sharp, Kenny.

Straight profile is the easiest to build.  Let us know what weight and length you want and we can come pretty close on the recipe for you.  You may even hit weight on the first one.  If you have any other questions along the way, feel free to ask.

You are gonna be another addict like the rest of us.  Kenny smiles!
