question about a Dryad BBO takedown blank...
« on: April 30, 2009, 01:48:00 PM »
I recently picked up a takedown BBO blank secondhand and have a question.  I'm wondering about the height above center that the shelf is going to end up being.

As it sits, the bow is 65 7/8" along the curves.  The lower limb is 1/4" shorter than the upper. I plan on cutting in the shelf above the sleeve, then adding some leather.  This will result in the top of the finished shelf being 2 3/8" above the center line of the bow.

Is this acceptable, or will I need to shorten the lower limb?  The limbs are already tapered to a touch over 1/2" wide at the tip and have a 2" piece of osage overlay glued on.

Thanks in advance for your responses.

I would email Dryad, I'm sure they would be willing to help you out.

Get hold of Mike or Jason at Dryad Bows. These two gentlemen will have all the answers to all your questions.

Dryad stands behind its products, and Mike and Jason really know their stuff.

FWIW, Dryad also has a DVD on finishing their laminated all wood bows, and it is included with their wood laminated bow blanks now. Perhaps this DVD would give you a great visual presentation of of how to go about finishing your project.

Their DVD is excellent tillering instruction. I've used it to tiller my own BBO glue-ups.

I eyeballed mine. Just held the bow where it seemed to fit and cut the shelf right above my hand.

I emailed Mike and he told me to make sure the limbs were even lengths.  I'm going to adjust the top nock point 1/4" lower than the bottom one.

My hand is just a touch wider than the takedown sleeve, so it is automatically centered.

I'll post some pics of the build later this week.
