I am a fiber optic engineer by trade. I have access to all the glass fiber I want. Little smaller than a hair. Breaking strength over 100lbs proof. I thought of a nutty backing idea. As a tribute to my career I could back a bow with these silica fibers. Bad news is it might be rough sanding.
Another nutty idea is I have access to all this shielding we surround the fiber with. Its basicaly kevlar. We throw out this stuff all the time. Maybe that would make a good backing.
I know its not traditional. But it didn't hurt me, it would be interesting. The fibers could be dangerious if they broke, and get into your blood stream as they can and have caused strokes before by clogging a artery.
