Petes 60", one piece recuve- Build along
« on: June 07, 2009, 11:33:00 PM »
Ok guys, this might just be my best one yet...Took a bunch of pictures so here we go.

This bow was made for my friend Pete, whom asked for a one piece recurve and will hunt whitetail with it this fall.

Final specs are 50# @ 28"

First I made the riser. I used a block of desert camo coreflex superaction and I laminated within a piece of Paduak between hard maple.

Once the fades were ground, the first of a few dry runs on the form

Now lets start some overlays...I think I have more overlays on this bow than any other I have made.

All are white glass and paduak

Here are the rough tips

After I got the tiller down, I sanded to 220 and applied a brush coat of TB epoxy, sanded then applied some smooth on to fill the paduak.  Then another coat or two of TB epoxy with a brush and sanded in between.

Then I applied 3 spray coats of TB, sanding with a scotchbright like 320 grit pad inbetween.  Then the final two spray coats are just frosted to give it that nice matte finish.

This little touch up sprayer from Harbor Freight is what I use and it just might be the best $10 I ever spent.

And I also made a wall rack for this one out of a couple arrows and a piece of Santos Mahag.
