Eastern Red Cedar Stave

What do Y'all think is it worth fooling with for a bow? Or is it better used as limb tips and other stuff?

Saw a Yew Stave that looked something like that this last weekend, another suggestion might be cutting lams out of it and maqke a lam bow out of the wood?

ERC is too soft for overlays.    That stave will make a bow though.

I think you do need to chase a ring but I don't know for sure.

ERC sapwood will make a good bow by itself. I saw an ERC ELB style bow that shot like a rocket a few years ago.

From what I can see of the sapwood in the picture, I would just clean up the back with a scraper, and build a bow.

I think you should use the sapwood and make it like an english yew longbow.

I'd think about backing it with rawhide or sinew.  Eastern Red Cedar makes a nice, light, and snappy bow.  The thing with cedar is it doesn't give you any warning before it explodes into a dozen pieces!

Thanks Guys. I am just going to leave the sapwood on and just make a regular bow with this one. I have another bigger ERC tree at my range that I will probably get. Thanks Brandon
