Can red cedar be used in the riser? I'm thinking that it would have to be strengthened by using phenolic in the laminations.

Stay away from it in the riser. Too brittle. Bubinga looks similiar and is as tough as anything out there. Bubinga is also easy to find and relatively cheap. Chad
