A Bow for a Knife

Some time back now, February to be exact, I got myself into a trade, a bow for a knife.

Doug Campbell came all the way from Montana to NY for a rabbit hunt.  There was a fund raiser for St Judes at the same time, and Doug brought one of his knives for the raffle.  I made a bamboo backed osage bow as my offering.

Of all the great items that could be won, Doug's knife was high up there on the list of things that I would have liked to have won.  Doug seemed pretty keen on winning my bow too,  unless he was just talking it up to make me feel good      ;)     .

Ooops.... premature post.....

Anyway.... as my luck usually seems to be,  I didn't win Dougs knife.    :pray:    

Don't you know.... not much after lunch, Doug brought me this....

   

The one on the top is the one Doug put in for the auction, the bottom one lives with me now.   :goldtooth:

We agreed to a trade.  Doug wanted his bow to be 62", 55 to 60 lbs at 27".

He said he wasn't in any hurry, and from our many conversations over the weekend,  it sure seemd like he had plenty of bows to shoot.

Well, after one false start.... and a month long break for turkey season.... this is what I came up with.

It's bamboo backed osage, 62", right and left handed, 57# at 27".

   

   

   

   

   

   

     

I'd post a full draw picture, but this thing already hurt my shoulder last week and I just got shooting again yesterday.  It draws 60# at my 28 and I'm used to 50 pounders.

Doug, I hope you put your bow to good use on some of those critter roaming the Montana hills.  Your knife did a great job on my eastern spring bird.  Maybe some day I can come and visit it,  I've always wanted to hunt Montana elk.   ;)

Oh man that's sweet Keith!! I knew after seeing & shooting your bow at Shawn's there was no doubt she'd be perfect!! Can't wait to get her in my hands, got lots of gophers up here needing to be harrassed. I'm pretty sure I got the better end of this swap   :D

Thanks guys .... it was fun to build.  I was almost hoping it wouldn't make weight so I would have to keep it.

Doug, I want to see it leaning up against one of those big boys like in your avatar.  Gophers sound like a good warm-up though.

broketooth, I use Homestead powdered dyes from Woodcraft.  I like the water soluable.

Wow Keith, nice looking bow! I actually got to watch that conversation, so it is cool to see it wrap up.(I didnt win the other knife either  :rolleyes:  )
