Pocosin lakes hogs NC

Anyone kill a hog in the pocosin lakes area up around pungo this year?

Just wonderin if anyone has tried or succeeded? Also since they are feral I wonder if you could hunt them in the off season??? have to check the regs or make some phone calls-thought just crossed my mind.

I'm pretty sure you can only hunt them during an open season with a weapon legal for that season.

That is what I thought the law read, could not remember as they are itchin for them to be shot up there. Never hurts to ask! LOL.

Have you been up there hunting them??? Should be good-I will spend this summer scouting there.

I've hunting there for about 14 years now and it's a good hunting spot ....only set-back is a a very tough terrain , canebreak rattlers , copperheads ,cottonmouths and all the skeeters you can swat.Personally , i love the snakes but they can be hard to see in the thick stuff.
So far i havent taken a hog from the refuge but i see a few here and there........the boys i hunt with killed 2 last season.......i've heard of more being killed.
As far as a season goes .....
i think it's open as long as there is a legal season open for any other game.
Call Mike Noles at CONMANS GUIDE SERVICE(GOOGLE).If anyone can tell ya ..he can.He also owns the best camping area in the Poccosin lakes refuge.
The last i heard ...they are wanting all feral hogs gone....Yeeeehaaawww!

Mike just posted on the NC Hunting and Fishing forums that he now has hogs invading one of his farms.

I plan to hunt Pocosin Lakes next year. I'll be ready to ride out any storm this time.

I have been hunting there for years only on pungo NWR, I have never hunted the actual pocosin lakes area. I have not hunted up there for a few year though like 3 years. Going to go up and scout it this year for hogs and deer. Maybe make a couple day trip out of it.

Wated to make the trad gang hunt there last year but couldn't. this year I WILL no doubt!

Where is this place? I've got a sister living at the base of Pilot Mountain. Is it close?

Not really - Pilot Mountain is NW, up above Winston-Salem, and Pocosin Lakes area is out on the Coast(kinda near Lake Mattamuskeet) -  about 4 or 5 hours apart, I'd say, perhaps more.
