My first bow!
« on: August 15, 2009, 07:52:00 PM »
Well after a lot of reading here, a couple books, and a class taught by Ryan and Pat O'sullivan I finally made my first bow. It's an osage bow 42# @ 28" and 64" long. My target was 45# so not bad. It came off at 44# and lost 2 lbs. after shooting it in. I used a brown beaver tail for the grip and rest and brown leather dye to stain it. Also notice the cool knot/hole on the bottom limb near the tip. There's a lot of stuff I need to improve upon and a lot of fine finish details I have to learn and develop the patience for but I had so much fun I had to make a new work bench for all the future ones I plan to make.

Nice bow and pretty incredible for your first. With teachers like Ryan and Pat I'm not surprised!

Thanks guys! I appreciate all of the kind words. One of my next projects in the next couple months is going to be a take-down osage bow. Good catch Robert, I plan on doing lots more bows! You guys are right it gets addicting.

very cool!  I don't think I'm ready to try self bows yet.  Again - very cool.
