Plains style Coyote quiver
« on: August 20, 2009, 11:56:00 PM »
I know this forum is mostly for bows but since I'm here most I thought I'd share this quiver with you. I put this together for a friend in Oklahoma. The coyote skin is commercial tanned, the tan colored leather is commercial tanned elk hide and the red is thin garment leather. The coyote face is the flap for a detachable pouch that is attached to the stiffener(viburnum)rod with the thongs that hold the quiver to the stiffener. All stitching is by hand and most done using an awl. The quiver, pouch and strap are stitched with artificial sinew. The strap is adjustable and is attached to the stiffener with a thong and osage medallion.

Very nice Pat, my daughter would kill for one of those, I hope she doesn't see this cause there would be another project for me.
Nice job!!  :clapper:

Thanks guys.
Tony, On the Primitive Archer website, "Jackcrafty" Patrick Bland did an excellent build along and shows many good techniques for working with coyote hides. Patrick builds authentic NA archery gear and like the Natives, the quiver is backwards(head to the rear and tail forward. I opted to reverse that so the fur laid down to the rear. I didn't take any pics while I was making this quiver. Only when I was done.

Very nice, Pat.  How many hours into this project?  The last critters remaining on earth when it implodes will be coyotes and prairie rats errr dogs.

Jim, I have about 20 hours in this quiver. I can probably be a bit faster with the next one because of what I learned making this one. It is all hand work so it takes time to do it right. Like building wood bows, you don't want to get in a rush. That never works out for the best.

Thanks Mark. I have another coyote pelt to make myself a quiver. I'll have to think it out a bit more though.
