Rowan/Mountain Ash

G'day fellow TradGang'ers,

My family owns a little island in Sweden, where - of course - we have a LOT of trees, including rowan/mountain ash. This summer I got 2 staves around 4 inches thick, and left them in the house (in Sweden) to dry up. What I was wondering was... how long do they have to dry? And is there anything unusual I should know about this type of wood?

At 4" thick, it will take a little more than a year to dry. If you shape a stave to near bow dimensions it will dry faster, maybe by winter it would be dry enough to work, but that's rushing it.

Rowan makes an excellent bow. I have not tried it but have seen some nice ones.
