HELP!! bowhunting near towns cities
«

I just got off the phone with a reporter from a major newspaper about bowhunting near towns and cities to control deer populations. We have a proposal near Prince Rupert BC for a hunt. Can anyone give me the names of any municipalities in the US and Canada that have a municipal hunt.

Ohio has urban deer units. Here in Columbus we can use an urban tag that is cheaper than our regular tag. Check out the ODNR's website for more info on that.
I grew up in WV and Weirton and Wheeling both had "city" bowhunts. You had to attend a meeting and complete your bowhunters education class.
Warden415 lives in Weirton and is a game warden as well. He may be able to give you more details.
They also do an earn a buck program in the cities there. It was a really cool deal- for residents only. There were some awesome deer there!

they're all over...Atlanta has one that some friends and I started in 1999...Called SWMNGA, Inc. (Suburban Whitetail Management of North GA) and you can see the website at
www.swmnga.org
There's Washington DC area...www.swmnva.org I know of some in Minnesota, WI, and I think St Louis, and lots of other places. Try googling urban deer hunting and see what you come up with.

Fairfax County, Virginia (suburb of Washington, DC)
There are a number of cities/counties in Virginia that have "urban" seasons. Below link is from the Virginia Department of Game:

NJ also uses the United Bowhunters of NJ (UBNJ) and they provide management hunts in areas you can't open up to public hunting.
It has worked really well thus far and there are alot of guidlines and rules for safety and what not but its somethign to cinsider.
If you need info about it contact the UBNJ directly and they can help ya out I'm sure.

NC offered a suburban deer hunt this year for the first time but it is up to the counties to coordinate the hunts. Pat
