Static bending
« on: October 16, 2009, 09:50:00 PM »
Was going to make me a static recurve and going to bend a little osage to do it.

I think I have a pretty good handle on how to bend but I need to make my form.

Anybody know how the arc should be measured? Do I use a quart paint can and draw it out from that or is that too sharp of a bend? Do I make the tip "square off" at a 90 or do I continue a little more around the arc?

Auto cad to make patterns then off to office max (they can print REALLY big sheets of paper) that is how i have done similar patterns (for airplane wings) .  however i am still working on my bow, and have not made my form yet, kenny is sending me a pattern, so i am not guessing at it.
does everyone else look up when someone yells "DUCK!!"?

Looks like the tip (from belly side limb to tip) is about 4" ?

Also trying to figure out just where to put the bend as I don't want to put it too far towards the tip or too far towards to riser.

Here are a few forms I use for bending tips. All of my recurves have static tips but so do my straight limb bows. I usually leave the last 6" static for both.

This is the bow I recurved with this form.

I can't locate the pics of my other forms but both of these 2 bows were recurved with another form.
