Ash as a backing strip

How would ash be as a backing strip for a board bow, probably red or white oak.

White oak would make a better backing for the ash.

Ash gives a great backing. Marc st.Louis has used it on numerous bows from whitewoods, but he also prefers it for backing yew.

seems he makes ash-backed hophornbeam very often, quite a few ash-backed yew bows... It'll be a nice backing for oak. But why back oak?

white ash makes a great backing for woods like red oak, walnut and ash itself.  sometimes hickory just isn't needed.  ash backed red oak is my favorite other wood combo.  Its also important to remember that Marc St louis chases a ring on ash before making into a backing for yew and hhb.  I have always just used a good qtr sawn board.  As far as a backing for white oak, i think linen or silk wood be a better choice.
