Were can i find osage in arkansas

I was wondering if anyone knew were u could find, or buy osage in Arkansas . To make a self bow I have made one but a friend gave me the osage. pleas let me know if u know were I could find some I would like it to be in Arkansas if possible.

Arkansas is in the historical home of osage. It should be all over. Can you identify the tree if you see it? If not, get a field guide to trees and go exploring.

I can identify osage. Do u know were i could find it in Arkansas and what kind of terrain. I live in the south of Arkansas and cant find any on my land or deer leas ,and thanks for the help.

Do as Dano suggests and ask a few local farmers or check out the farmer's supply companies. They may sell osage fence posts.

had the same issue when i first came to east texas. I asked around the local farms and talked to the neighbors - was shown groves of it. Even found groves of it on our property after that.

I would imagine if you talk to some farmers they will show it to ya and let you cut it down - a lot of people consider it brush and well worth the entertainment to watch someone cut it down. Be prepared to cut it, harvest what you want and then drag the rest off tho. Or a lot of people around here will let you cut it down, take what you can use, cut the rest into fence posts. They take the posts, you get the staves and you or both drag the brush off.

You can look for horse apples too in the spring/summer. Bright green softball sized fruit that ain't meant for eat'n!

Jake, osage grows mostly in western AR, near the OK state line.  Some communities around the state may have some planted for decorations and you can find some around old farm steads.  I live in Union county and have heard of some out in the county.  There are even a couple planted up town in El Dorado near an office building.  Check with home extention coop and maybe feed stores.

Check with soil conservation service in your area.  They know the landowners in the area very well and probably know which has osage on it.  Remember it is called several different names.  I once asked if I could cut some osage the landowner said I could cut all I wanted but it was hedge not osage.

Here in Ohio them horse apples are still on come deer season. They might come a little later than spring, like regular apples.  Mark
