Another longbow ( unstrung and full draw pics added )
« on: January 21, 2010, 09:46:00 AM »
This is my latest work. It's not finished yet but I wanted to show you what I have done so far. The limbs are made of bubinga and maple and the riser is zebrano. The bow is 68" NTN and it draws 45"@28#.

I still need to glue on the tips and the overlays and shape em. And then sanding, sanding, sanding and even more sanding...

I like that handle, all the fancy combinations are pretty cool too but sometimes just plain wood is the best way to go.

Has a pretty sexy profile as well. Nice job.

Shot her the first time that weekend and was amazed how smooth and sweet she's shooting. I believe this is due to the bigger riser and that little extra weight that comes with it. No handshock at all and the arrows are sent down with a good speed. Got her sanded and have applied the first two coats of the finish. Will post some better pics as soon as I'm done with it.

I'll do my best, but there are still three or four coats to apply and then there is that thing that is called work that keeps you from building bows...

Of course you're right. I'm glad to to have a job that brings the food on the table. But when you're in the process of finishing a bow, did you never wish to have that little extra time to apply the last coat right now instead of waiting another day ?

I still have to work a lot on that patience issue...
