I am from Nova Scotia and have built many bows from local woods. My favorite wood is Hop Hornbeam . I have built bows from White ASh, White Oak, Red Oak, Hickory,Apple,Maple, Yellow Birch,I also made a Hickory backed Purpleheart bow.  WE have no yellow woods here so without a doubt Hop Hornbeam is the best bow wood we have.  John.
