New bow build for Brian!
« on: February 24, 2010, 07:35:00 AM »
This one was started a few days ago.  It will be a 68" Cumberland (straight profile) longbow drawing 55@28.  Brian picked the woods, and I like them a whole bunch!  I plan to use these combos again.  She is gonna look real classy.  The riser is bloodwood with granadillo saddle and hickory accent.  She has boo cores, figured cherry on the back and honey locust on the belly.  Wow!

That bloodwood is some bloody stuff!

Cherry

Honey locust

Got this one glued up yesterday and cleaned up this morning.  I should get a string on her tomorrow.  Sure seems stout!  Hope I didn't miss weight!

Very Nice Bow Marty.  What is your opinion on string follow with the straight bow?

Mine has about 1/2" of string follow, but depends on the length.  The longer bows have slightly more, the shorter ones slightly less.  The best shooting straight bow to me is one with slight string follow.

Got the overlays cleaned up this morning.  Also got the tips shaped.  Next is final tillering and riser shaping!

This morning I got the limb timing almost spot on, got her down to the requested draw weight, and the limb edges rounded.  Some sanding at the overlay transitions finished my morning.  Next is the riser shaping!

Looking sweet. I like your tiller tree setup as well.  Do you have a full picture, I'm looking for one to model mine after.
Thanks
